Hostel facility of any educational institute acts as a boon for those students who want to pursue studies be it in school/college but cannot because long-distance travelling is not possible every day. So staying in a hostel accommodation makes life easy for such students who can then utilise this precious time and energy for his/her academic activities and other productive tasks. To promote girl child higher education in Raidighi, South 24 Parganas area the Raidighi Women’s Hostel - Nivedita Bhawan, was established. The Hostel was inaugurated on 24th March, 2018, and has become fully operational from 2018-19 session. The hostel is situated just opposite to the Main Building of the college, on the other side of the road. It has a capacity of 100 girl-students. The provision of the hostel in our College, encourage the girl-students who come from far to accommodate themselves here and avoid the strenuous journey from home
This hostel made undergraduate education at Raidighi College, a dream come true for those girl students who desired higher education opportunity but couldn't because of long-distance travelling. The establishment of the Raidighi Hostel provided better learning at an affordable price. The 4 storied hostel building is situated right opposite to the college campus at Raidighi. The entrance area of the hostel has a statue of Sister Nivedita followed by a reception area. On the ground floor, there are 9 rooms (each provided with two single beds and a study table), 2 dining halls, 1 kitchen, 1 storeroom and 3 big toilets (consisting of smaller toilets inside). There are 16 rooms, 1 balcony and 3 toilets on each of the first, second and third floors. The terrace is on the fourth floor.
Initially, few students enrolled but later students number increased. Most of the resident students belong to interior areas of Nurpur, Moipith, Debipur, Katamari etc. The hostel boarders were provided with all the basic facilities required for safety, comfortable living along with nutritious meals. The appointed hostel manager supervised their day to day activities. The hostel committee members actively participated in the smooth functioning of the hostel. With proper guidance, students maintained discipline and cleanliness in the hostel.
At first, the inmates felt lonely but later they made good friends and adjusted to the new environment. They all felt that the hostel facility had saved their precious time, energy and money from long and torturous hours of commuting and helped them to pursue higher education to realise their dreams. A hostel serves as a platform to bring students from different background and culture to interact with each other thereby expand their horizon of thoughts, ideas and communication skills. They learn unity in diversity, become independent, responsible and accommodating. Sharing meals and stories eventually boost the sense of empathy among students which prepares them to be responsible citizens in life.
